We took a trip to Fourth Lake during fourth of July week, 2000. We stayed with Rich's family (his parents; his sister Becky and her boyfriend David; and his brother Rob, with our sister-in-law Tammi and our nephew Alex) in a three-bedroom chalet at Eagle Bay Village.
Highlights of the trip for us included meeting Tammi and Alex for the first time, and generally having a relaxing vacation in the Adirondacks.
After meeting Tammi and Alex, we broke out the squirt guns. Rich and I ganged up on Alex, but it was only fair because he had two squirt guns, and we only had one each.

After dinner, Rich and Katy walked a mile or so up the road to Inlet and had ice cream at The Northern Lights.
We spent the morning on the beach, and Katy took Alex out on the canoe.

Katy then tried to paddle around Dollar Island in the center of the lake, but it was too windy, and she turned back before making it around.
In the afternoon, more relatives (Uncle Dan, Uncle Doug, Aunt Pat and Beppa) showed up for a picnic.
After the uncles had left, we had a campfire and s'mores.
Very cloudy today. Katy, Beck and David decided to take the canoe out in the morning, since the lake was very calm and there weren't many boaters out. They paddled out around the island Katy couldn't reach yesterday. Unfortunately, they had only set their goal to circle around the island, not to circle the island and return safely to the beach -- they managed to swamp the canoe after hitting a speedboat wake crosswise. Luckily, they were rescued by some people in party boats. (Equally unfortunately, they dried off too quickly to get a picture, and it was too rainy for anyone to be out on the beach with the camera).
After recovering from the trauma, we proceeded to watch Rob open his birthday gifts. Rich also opened his gifts from Rob/Tammi/Alex and his parents.

Katy and Rich went to the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake in the afternoon.
On the fourth of July, Rich and Katy went for a short hike up to the fire tower on Bald Mountain. The hike up was uneventful -- we made lots of stops, and drank lots of water on the way. The view from the top was definitely worth it.
We sat and watched the view for a while, and also saw a very tired looking family with three small kids and a dog.
That night, we watched the bonfire down by the lake until dark. Some other people at Eagle Bay Villas had fireworks, and were setting them off on the beach. We watched those until the official fireworks barge from Inlet began its show. After that, we retreated to our cabin, and played with the sparklers Rich's parents had brought with them.
We relaxed at the cabin in the morning. I'm not sure either Katy or Rich's Dad was thrilled to be in this picture.
In the late morning, we decided to do a boat tour of First through Fourth lakes while the rest of the crowd went to the Enchanted Forest amusement park. The tour was interesting, but it was quite windy on the lake, and we were a little cold before we were done.
