Field Trip: Chico, California, March 24-28, 2006

Putting my disastrous Arizona trip behind me, I again flew out West. This time I went to Chico, California which is about two hours north of Sacramento. It was my first trip to Northern California (outside of San Francisco). The weather wasn't too great so I only took a few pictures.

1. From the viewing platform at the protected area of the Upper Butte Basin refuge, Llano Seco Ranch. There is a lot of duck hunting outside of the refuge.

3. Owner of Chez Albert, best restaurant in Chico! Albert's specialties are wild duck, pheasant and quail which I had never eaten before.

4. On the campus of California State University at Chico, view from the bridge over Big Chico Creek (not to be confused with Little Chico Creek which is akin to not confusing River Road with Chico River Road). Butte Hall is in the background, home of the Economics Dept.

5. 5 Mile on Big Chico Creek so named because it is five miles from the Bidwell Mansion. Annie Bidwell gave a large portion of Bidwell Park to Chico in the early 1900's. The house was home to General John and Annie Bidwell.
