Enchanted Castle

The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit.

Picked this up at the bookstore when shopping for a few new Christmas books to read to the kids. Will probably read this to them in a couple of years. Quite fun. The tone reminded me of George MacDonald. And there's also shades of Narnia (four kids on vacation in a fantastic world...).

Trickster

Trickster by Stephen Harper.

Third book in his Silent Empire series. He posted on his newsgroup that he's finished the fourth book; I'm looking forward to it. I didn't feel that this lived up to the previous two books. I was especially annoyed with what felt very much like a deus ex machina in the latter part of the book with the Emporium, as I didn't remember it specifically from the earlier books.

Power Lines

Power Lines by Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough.

Saw it on the library shelf and remembered enjoying the previous book in the series. But I wasn't actually in the mood to read this one until I had a bad cold and wanted a fluffy book.

A Gift of Dragons: Illustrated Stories by Anne McCaffrey.

Guess I was in the mood for Pern stories after rereading the Harper Hall trilogy. And these were pure fantasy Pern. I can't stand AVIAS, and I'm not sure why.

Harper Hall Trilogy

The Harper Hall Trilogy by Anne McCaffery.

My daughter pulled the first book off the haphazard stack on the shelf (I need more bookshelves!), and I decided to re-read. Didn't bother digging up Robinton, though, nor did I succumb to The White Dragon.

Lost track of books for a while. Filling in with titles read since the beginning of December.

Singularity Sky

Singularity Sky by Charlie Stross.

I liked the rain of telephones at the very beginning. I'm not as captivated by the "eastern European" bureaucracy. I was really hoping to enjoy this a lot, as I like Stross's short fiction. But I'm not giving up on the book yet either. So far, it's a space opera spy novel...

I just don't have the concentration for this one right now. I'm spending so much time concentrating on the technology that I'm losing the plot.

It very much reminds me of Iain M Banks, only more so, if that makes any sense.
