The Longest Way Home

The Longest Way Home by Robert Silverberg. This was on the SF section of the NYT notable books of 2002 list, so I took an extra look when I saw it on the new books shelf at the library.

AD Foster.
Wondering how the book could end so fast.
Why was the NYT so impressed? Or was I just skimming the surface tale and not delving into the iconic significance of his interior changes?

Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Caroline Stevermer and Patricia C. Wrede.

Delightful, delightful, delightful. I couldn't resist for long when this one came in my shipment from Amazon, even though I considered saving it to read on vacation. Very much in the authors' style -- it reminded me of the Mairelon series and College of Magics. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel, The Grand Tour which is due out either late this fall or next spring (I've seen no specific dates yet.)

I also want to re-read Brust and Bull's Freedom and Necessity which is similar in construction -- an epistolary novel featuring intrigue and magic. But I've loaned out my copy (to who?) and can't find it at the moment.
